Hmm ... Dave Sim thinks Dave Sim was right. How could we see that coming?

That's by Eddie? Nice - I would add a thong and ditch the black square, but hey, likely
that's a little too close to 'that region' everyone wants to pretend doesn't exist. Even
though the pelvis is 'grand central' to any pose (says John Raynes (artist/anatomist), whose
"Figure Drawing and Anatomy for The Artist is my 'bible' in the 'constructionist' approach to
human anatomy)
Otherwise, I think Eddie needs to use a tighter grip (evidently) when he uh, strangles
someone. And:
The Ungulate Empire Goes Slack
Have a couple ideas (solid, mainstream ideas) to drop on Dave's doorstep, not to pitch, just
to drop, soon as we get all the local details sorted...
Meaning the anti-work fringe first needs to reverse its position (I wouldn't hold my breath
on that one).

Edit: By local I mean Victorian Hills (Dave's across town) and that "anti-work fringe" might actually be mainstream (those of a certain 'political persuasion' who've gone berzerko, destroying abilities in their wild frustration-driven revenge rampage on society (where have we heard this before?)...)

Anti-work, anti-ability... hmmmmmm

Only in Canada? Certainly we'll do our best to contain it...
And you can do your part too!

Damian, do you sit at your computer all day waiting for anything that Dave Sim might say? Just so you can make snide little comments? What a sad and pathetic weasel you are.

Sorry weasels, but look up Damian and you'll see exactly what animal he resembles.

1) Well thank you RSS. I was originally going to do a STRAY TOASTERS theme with a toaster over "grand central station" instead of the standard black box, but messed up on the eyes and had to distract from that with war paint on the cheeks. At that point, it pretty much had to be a Demon Bear theme.

2) From Bleeding Cool Feb 26 2021:

https://bleedingcool.com/comics/wandavision-spoilers-push-john-byrne-west-coast-avengers-on-ebay/

"Previously in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, we had learned that Hydra used the Mind Stone, to create the powered-up Wanda Maximoff and Pietro Maximoff to fight the Avengers. Today we learn more of their past, their direct animosity to Tony Stark, as well as Agatha Harkness's own history. Specifically that Wanda always had powers, it was just the Stone that amplified them. Always a witch? Or always a mutant? Is there a difference? There may be a reason that the X-Men comics have seen the term "witchbreed" used for mutants a lot more of late. But that's all by the by."

Thanks, Anon @ 07:40 PT, for another comment exemplifying your intelligence and engagement with the issues. I'll be sure to give you all the consideration you deserve.

Completely off-topic, or perhaps not, but in my LCS on Friday I spotted this on the new arrivals shelf.

https://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Masterworks-Howard-Duck-Vol/dp/1302922165

Prominent on the spine is a big VOL. 300, and you'll see that referenced in the Amazon PR copy, which was probably written by someone at Marvel.

I don't adhere to Dave's Comic-Art Metaphysics but it's hard to see it as a coincidence that the one of the two mainstream comics of significance that influenced Cerebus the Aardvark was chosen to be the 300th book in the Marvel Masterworks volumes. Not that I pay that much attention, but who even knew that the MM books had sequential volume numbers for the entire collection and not just for each reprinted series?

Further to Michael G.'s point: if people are interested in collected volumes of comics, you could do worse than to check out "Collected Editions" -- here announcing the HtD volume he mentions: https://collectededitions.com/2020/07/10/marvel-masterworks-howard-the-duck-vol-1-hc.

Afterthought: a thong would increase the smut effect by a factor of ten, at least

Yeah, Damian is a troll and a passive aggressive bully to the 9th degree. I have no idea why anyone would claim to be a fan of something and spend all of their time ripping it and the creator to shreds. "Esquire"??? Please. That should tell you all you need to know. Maybe that ponytail is too tight.

Sorry Eddie, wasn't ignoring your post, just didn't see it, through many passes of the comments. (Again, I'm far from being a word person, except on/through those 'brilliant' days/occasions/periods...)
If you're saying the drawing is 'eyeballed' rather than traced, then I'm twice as glad to see it. Unfortunately, if I saved a copy of the original photo (for comparison), it's sitting on my recently deceased computer, though I gather it's still out there on the web as well; I could follow my own advice and do my own version before I critique anyone else's work (of course we're still waiting for Damian to step up and show his work too(!); or at least I am)
Update: Google images was no help, but found Matt's promo version, which will do if I can't find the original again

Oh no. The figure was definitely traced. I wish I could eyeball that!

Since all of Dave Sim's remaining fans seem to be sycophants of the highest order, it doesn't hurt to have a dissenting voice pipe up once in a while. Damian puts more thought into his comments than most people on here.

Unfortunately my tablet, which worked so well on the other computer (now deceased, as mentioned) isn't cooperating on the new machine. So this is a project for another day.

RSS said...

lol, sorry again, Eddie, yet again, completely missed your post... I'd try drawing it with a mouse (like in the old days, just to 'prove I can') but I guess the tablet spoiled me... Thanks for your reply!

"it doesn't hurt to have a dissenting voice pipe up once in a while", hope you stick around!

RSS, congratulations on becoming blogspot “official.”

RSS said...

I did? Then I want a custom name plate: Sycophant in Chief! And for that I think I best skip the part about that "streak of sh*t" that appears every week as the "Monday Report", right?
Oh.
I guess you mean RSS in black becoming RSS in that teal-ish colour, er, color. That was an accident; who knew you had to change some obscure setting somewhere in Blogger to effect that particular change? Not I.

RSS said...

There, Matt. I *did* mention it after all!
Thanks Matt!

As an apology to Eddie (for a few things), I've dug up a bunch of drawings from the early 2000s, all done by mouse; I'm sure Matt will pass them along to Eddie when he has the chance.
You might even see them here as an apology for dangling the promise of a drawing in front of everyone and not delivering. That's up to Matt. If he doesn't I'll blog them myself and drop the link (if that's okay).

Brian West said...

I did mean the latter, RSS. Teal becomes you.

"messed up on the eyes and had to distract from that with war paint on the cheeks. At that point, it pretty much had to be a Demon Bear theme"

Not the first person to be railroaded by an image, still looks good/very dynamic, angle of the claws pointing to the central figure (not to say any of this was intentional; some of the best images are accidents, or even *most* of them)... nice

By the way, my thumbnail/"avitar" (wich I can't get rid of, either) is also about "living life* fully to its very last day (when your life is ended by whichever circumstance or force), specifically it's against joining a death cult (which includes all of the exoteric religions), specifically against adopting religion as 'insurance', 'just in case it might be true' (Pascal's Wager): imo life is for living, not for spending most of it moping about death: come alive (buy a frisbee, buy a soccer ball, something)
