Dialogue from Cerebus #224

MARGARET LISS:

A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

We last saw Dave’s 26th notebook back in May of 2019 in Sick Mother, which covered page 7 of the notebook that had 58 pages scanned and covers Cerebus #224 through 230. Today we’ll look at page 8 of the notebook. Which you’d think would have material that goes past the two pages of Rick’s Story covered on page 7, pages 93 and 94. However, page 8 doesn’t. It goes back to page 87.

The dialogue starts off with word balloons and then just goes into a stream of Cerebus’ inner dialogue. The four ‘POUND’ up at the top becomes the background. Almost all of it ends up on page 1 of Cerebus #224:
