Gov't Subsidies (Dave's weekly update #477)

Hi, Everybody!

Dave's Weekly Update:

OKAY, I know that we're supposed to be "ALL TURTLES 8, ALL THE TIME" until the Kickstarter ends, but I'm guessing this week's update probably was in the kitty before the TMNT #8 batch hit.

ANYWAY how's the Kickstarter doing Iguana?
Like this image? You're gonna be seeing a lot of it...A LOT

Awesome! YOU (if you haven't yet) should back the Remastered Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8 Kickstarter from Aardvark-Vanaheim and The Waverly Press.

They got covers, oh man do they got covers:
Cerebus creator Dave Sim has illustrated 3 new covers including his own updated homage (with colorist David Birdsong) to Kevin Eastman's original 1986 wraparound cover! In addition, some of the brightest names in contemporary comics have created new T8 variant covers for this release. We are thrilled to offer new covers by Jim Lawson, Steve Lavigne and Michael Dooney, all veteran Turtles artists during the magical early days at MIRAGE. In fact, Michael Dooney worked on the original T8 book back in 1986! Some of you may recognize the cover work by Fero Pe, a contemporary Turtles artist for IDW, and Ciro Nieli who was the executive producer of the 2012 Turtles series for Nickelodeon. Nieli's dynamic, artistic style set the tone for the modern age of Turtles. We also have incredible covers by Heavy Metal Magazine artist Federico Mele, the instantly recognizable Kyle Hotz who has created work for IDW, Marvel, DC and Dark Horse, and comics legend Simon Bisley who has created work for just about every comics publisher over the last 40 years! Brandon Graham, Eisner Award nominee and modern indie comics favorite has brought his unique style to this release. Sam Heimer has created a super cool Halloween themed cover, perfect for the year 'round trick or treaters out there! Carson Grubaugh, another Eisner Award nominee for his work on The Strange Death of Alex Raymond, Cerebus in Hell artist Benjamin Hobbs, Living the Line's Sean Michael Robinson, and the brilliant newcomer Brookes Morris round out this stellar line up of variant cover artists for this very special release!
Click over to see them in all there glory.

They got add-ons and whatnots:
The Platinum Foil cover features new art by Dave Sim, the wraparound Pop cover features vintage art from T8 by Eastman, Laird and Sim, and the Blank Logo cover is ready for you or your favorite artist to create a unique, one of a kind cover! All 3 books come with a trading card unique to each variant.

We are offering both Cerebus #1 and Turtles #1 homage covers by Brookes Morris in alternate editions. Both are recolored and 'distressed' by Benjamin Hobbs and they are super cool! In this variant 2-pack you will also receive the milestone Cerebus #100 trading card, hand signed by Dave Sim!

The T8 Ashcan Preview book was published in November 2022 and features new covers by Dave Sim. The Collector cover is limited to 150 copies, the wraparound Green Foil cover is limited to 120 copies, and the wraparound Platinum Foil cover is limited to 40 copies, signed and numbered by Dave Sim. Eash Ashcan book comes with a rare trading card unique to each variant. We have just a few left.

Visions of Turtles 8 is a compilation of new art by nearly two dozen artists, inspired by T8, from the collection of Joshua Even. 75 More Sleeps! collects all 75 hand drawn trading cards plus new T8 pinups by Dave Sim. Pieces of Turtles 8.3 collects archival rarities around the creation of T8 including letters, photographs, art and sketches by Dave Sim, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird!
I asked. Pieces of Turtles 8.3 is material from 8.1 and 8.2 PLUS ALL NEW MATERIAL.

Dave Sim created 75 hand drawn trading cards that were unveiled daily on our Waverly Comics Instagram. We cannot picture all 75 individual cards but you can visit our Instagram page
Or just watch this:

and see all 75 which are posted sequentially and individually numbered. If you see the card called "33 More Sleeps" then we will post that card as "Card #33." The individual card pricing is based on composition, detail and complexity.
This is for the ACTUAL original art cards. If you just want the art, get the 75 More Sleeps! book. and if you want ALL the cards but ain't SDOAR Patroness rich, you can get:
Dave Sim created 75 trading cards that were unveiled daily on our Waverly Comics Instagram. Now you can own the entire set of 75 cards and relive the thrill of the countdown all year around!
This is a REPRINT of the 75 original cards (I think The Waverly Press is gonna get to Card #300 sooner rather than later, so I better figure out what I'm doing with the Jeff Seiler #301 cards pretty damn quick...) AS CARDS. For those of you who want more & smaller pieces of paper with the More Sleeps art.
A super cool set of 15 trading cards featuring brilliant new art inspired by T8! You will get cards by Sam Heimer, Kyle Hotz, Simon Bisley, and Michael Dooney among others!
The highest card I have is #90, plus 75, plus 15, plus 3, the #100 card equals 184...
Premium, enamel cloisonné pins of “Matisse the unknown Turtle” and Cerebus!
Yeah, I'll be getting them...
CEREBUS #1 and #2 are expanded editions with remastered art and rarities from the Cerebus Archive, plus brand new updated covers by Dave Sim. These cover variants are limited to 600 copies each. SPAWN #10 is remastered with updated art and rarities, plus a new cover by Dave Sim! This ultra-rare variant is limited to 200 copies and we only have a few left.
The #1 has a new cover. Dave created it awhile back. #2 and Spawn #10 are overstock, I BELIEVE.

Anyway, head on over and check out the multitude of pictures I don't wanna download, resize, and upload...

What’s going on here? Is Dave reading month-old newspapers to us? Now is not the time for that. Somebody please give Dave a few P.T. Barnum/Stan Lee pills or something. Now is the time for old-fashioned self-promoting hucksterism! Now is the time to sell, sell, sell!

I think next week starts the...(shit, I never named them...) "I Dig a Turtle" Kevin Eastman dialogues.

Sorry, I sent a bunch of covers and other images to Eddie(A-V)Khanna and Brian(TWITTER)West and MANLYMatt(AMOC)Dow and totally forgot to send them to Margaret(FACEBOOK) & Oliver(FACEBOOK) which I will correct right now. Only in comics and government do you plan for something for months and then get surprised when everything works according to a parallel universe's plan.

In our defense, Kickstarter really does take your images and compress the ever-loving @#$% out of them and I had told the guys they could just grab images from there but...yuck. It's always something with the Kickstarter.

Shipping costs are insane. Write your Congresshuman.

Is anyone embedded in any Turtles groups on Facebook? I think that's where you really need to sow the seeds for the biggest response. I'm sure there's a plan (Tell me there's a plan?!?!)
It would be awesome if Dave could twist Kevin's arm to make a post or two about it
