Longtime AMOC readers may remember back in September when I needed help with a fundraiser for my daughter's middle school dance team. Well, she's back with a fundraiser for her HIGH SCHOOL Dance team. 

So, she's got a calendar for May. Thirty-one squares, you pay the date. So, as an example, Dave Sim's birthday: May 17th would "cost" seventeen bucks. 

Last time I offered prints of Dave's Taylor Swift pieces he did for my kids:

 I have a few sets left...

But, I'm fairly certain that the people who would be willing to chip in ALREADY did last time, and have these. So, I'm thinking of what I could offer... All I can think of is my rejected Turtles card idea:

No idea if I'll do it as a regular card size, or postcard size, or what. More as I make up my damn mind...

BUT that's not all:

The school board gives the dance team $4000 for the year. The team (of 21 girls) has expenses of $9100+. So each kid needs to find a Sponsor.

 
Sponsors get their name/logo on the team's banner (that is at every game they dance at), and on the Fan shirt.

My (lame) employer MIGHT give me the two hundred bucks minimum they're looking for.

I THOUGHT of asking Dave and getting the AV logo on there, but sponsoring a team of mostly underage girls? I can hear the "NO!" from here.

Then I thought, how about a small "local" business. I could ask MJ Sewall if he wanted to pay $200 to get the Alfies Fish & Chips (610 N H St, Lompoc, CA) logo on there... 

But he's a small business owner during his busiest time of year, and how does advertising on the banner of a local high school dance team located two thousand two hundred and forty-eight miles away help his business at all? (I mean, I think it'd be funny...)

Then I thought of getting the brave and loyal AMOCteers to chip in and get the AMOC logo on there... 

  

 

But: Which one?

But, then I thought, what about a treat for the long-suffering members of the Little Orphan Aardvark Secret Society, and get Aardvark on there:

Notebook 36: Cerebus #287 - Not Really

MARGARET LISS:

A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

With last week’s post we looked at the pages labeled for Cerebus #286 from Notebook #36, Dave’s final notebook for Cerebus, but those pages didn’t have material for Cerebus #286. It was more of Dave’s writing on Jung. After a couple of weeks of this writing, we come to another blank page. This one for Cerebus #287:

Was there anything for Cerebus #287 on the other two pages for this issue? No, we skip forward to page #67 as pages 65 and 66 were blank. However, we already saw pages #67 and 68 in Sixteen Questions Before Breakfast. Well, not those sixteen questions, but sixteen questions that we would love to ask Cerebus.

Going to the next unseen page from the notebook, page #69, it seems I should’ve but this page with pages #67 & 68 as it kind of continues with the sixteen questions pages:

I went looking for tracing paper preliminary sketches for Cerebus #287 and instead came across an old one for Cerebus #92:

Part of me wonders how many of these early preliminary tracing paper drawings that were used in the creation of the original art still exists. I’d ask boss man to ask Dave for the next Please Hold For Dave Sim, but he said Thursdays were his day off. . .Or was it Tuesdays are his day off? Anyhoo, it is probably his day off. Good luck.

Giant-Size Ashcan Update

Next up! I drafted a 31-page Google document for Philip R. Frey with feedback for our next proof of the Giant-Size Ashcan #0 that features new cover art and insane amounts of remastering by the aforementioned Philip R. Frey. Things are looking really good and I've already faxed Dave with a handful of questions to get us to publishing the next proof of not only Ashcan #0, but Ashcan #1 as well!

Raffle VII Continues

Last week, I added a set of four Cerebus bookplates, signed by Dave Sim, to the raffle and we've raised $330 and 12 raffle tickets so far with two weeks to go!

Also last week, David Birdsong provided an update on packing of the Carson Grubaugh SDOAR cover painting, "I have some thick vellum that is the same size as the board so I placed two sheets over the painting and then a few more sheets to keep it all together. I've got several large pieces of cardboard and I'll make a nice oversized package for it and it will be ready to go when the raffle ends."

In case you're new to this raffle, David Birdsong generously donated Carson Grubaugh's painting from an early version of The Strange Death of Alex Raymond. Note that the frame was damaged and there was no glass in it so he removed the art. The marks made by the frame can be seen below. 16 x 20 inches, acrylic on board.
