My digital fax machine is smoking...

Hi, Everybody!

So, part of running AMOC means getting faxes from Dave.

Sometimes they're for me, and sometimes I get to be "see-that-fill-in-the-blank-Wise-Fellow-gets-this" Wise Fellow

Anyway, when I am, I usually send an email titled "Incoming Message From The Big Giant Head", because, well...

So, yeah:

And then,
Incoming Message From The Big Giant Head:
"TO BE CONTINUED" right now!

"TO BE CONTINUED" right now!

"TO BE CONTINUED"? I dunno, I just post this stuff...

Anyway:
I heard from the Waverly Press:
Hi everyone,

We want to let you all know that Spawn 10 is still in production.

The proofing stage went a little slower than anticipated and we had to make some minor corrections but everything is moving ahead, just a little slower than anticipated. All that's left is for the printer to get the deluxe covers to Dave Sim to sign and once returned the books will be bound and shipped. We expect to receive finished press sheets of the covers soon and will post pictures when they arrive.

We still don't have a firm delivery date due to slowdowns on the manufacturing side. The pandemic has caused our printer to work at reduced capacity and the last couple of weeks everything has really slowed down. We have several other books in production with other printers and note that we are seeing delays with every printer right now. We will let you know when we have a firm delivery date.

Just about everything else besides the actual books have been produced and are here in the office ready to be mailed. So far everything looks great!

For those of you who are interested in the final print runs of each variant, we have the numbers posted on our website: https://www.cerebusoverload.com

Thank you again for your support!
And if you missed ALL the times I mentioned The Regency Edition of High Society, well, it's sold out. So too bad so sad suckers... EXCEPT! there are fifteen "Proof" copies that are available for you last chance snoozers, just message the Waverly Press through the website form.  Tell 'em I sent you. (The Password is Swordfish.)

Rigamarole (that's Eye-Talian for "list of crap Matt keeps posting".):
Hemingway in Comics: https://www.booktable.net/ https://www.centuriesandsleuths.com/

Heritage has some interesting "Dave Sim" bits (three pages of original art Sean! Including the two page spread from the Wilf Jenkins Collection!)

Cerebus in Hell?
Order now:
Possibly still available to order:
And coming the first Wednesday in February: Cerebus in Hell? 2021 (the cover screw up delayed it a week...)

And Dave's calling on Thursday for Please Hold, so get your questions in to momentofcerebus@gmail.com.

Next Time: Call the planners...

Dave's apophenia, numerology, illogic, and plain mistakes aside, one moral from this might be that corporate-produced entertainment products for adolescents might not be the best source for spiritual insight.

Also interesting is that it's now "Dave Sim the Evil Misogynist Demon", and that Dave doesn't seem to have played any part in the establishment of that character. As always, he's just the innocent victim whose unprecedented genius goes unappreciated in his own lifetime.

Pretty funny stuff!

Oh, and I'm sure we can expect Sean R. to be along any minute to lecture Dave for calling the Cerebus audience miniscule and declining. "So, what happened to the other 18,000 [or more] people who read the book at its peak? They've all perished?"

Damian, on your first point I am in total agreement, believe it or not. That is sound moral reasoning on your part.

Speaking from personal experience corporate entertainments can be fun, even lucrative, in the short term, but potentially demoralizing and spiritually limiting in the long term. So, your comment on the potential shortcomings of corporate products geared towards teens holds water. I think that they are even more pernicious for adults to consume, if they are not careful.

Dave Sim writing about himself and his "persecution" is always pure comedy gold. There is no more self-pitying character in the history of comics.

So, Dave doesn’t understand Darwin it seems - humans and apes evolved from a common ancestor, not ‘humans evolved from apes’.

Damian,

You said (mistakenly) that "3000 people" were left "who have heard of Dave Sim or Cerebus". THAT is incorrect, and easily disproven.

Your estimation of an active AUDIENCE may in fact be correct. I didn't correct you on that! And I think you MAY be correct about the number in the sense that there's some small number who want EVERYTHING, and some larger number (unknown) who could be enticed to read something new if they were aware that it existed.

Okay, as always, there's a large amount of Dave's "replies" to me to unfold. As usual. I mean, there's a reason why the stack of letters from him (back in the day) is 2-feet tall).

But. All I asked was, "what do you think Chris and Bill were trying to do with NM, religiously."

I wasn't trying to subvert religion. Maybe; maybe, they were.

But you make me look bad, when I'm asking a relatively innocent question.

You wrote a couple of nice things about me, but yo wrote a lot of stuff that made me look irreligious. I am not so. I am a monotheist. I believe in God. I pray to God. Not like you do, but I do.

I don't pray *for* people, but I pray about people. And, I thank God, daily, for his blessings.

So, there ya go.

Don't like being vilified when that was not my thought.

But, your last paragraph? I totally agree with. See ya in the funny pages.

Matt: I got a 'please hold-um' -

Dave: I realized just a little while ago that "Glamourpuss" and Crumb's "Art & Beauty" are, on a fundamental level, twinned enterprises. Both feature their respective creators doing their best pen & ink work of women, using photographic resources, and in both cases these pin-up drawings are paired with a somewhat ironic narration as if written by a third-person for a traditional lifestyle publication (ie, these aren't personal essays, but commentary written from the POV of a fictional or distanced persona).

And as near as I can tell, the inspiration was similar for both artists - wanting to just do 'pure' drawing, and then contextualizing it with text and marketing it as a comic publication.

It's a little difficult to figure out exactly when the two stand-alone Art & Beauty issues were released or even if that was the first iteration, but I think it was in the early 2000's (2002-2003). Were you aware of it when you conceived of Glamourpuss or at any point during the lifespan of that book?

And on a higher level, as someone who really REALLY knows how to analyze linework, what's your take on the differences in approach between yourself and Crumb?

Thanks!

Tacking onto Dave K's question: Has Dave read Crumb's (wonderful and surprisingly respectful, if not reverent) illustrated "Book of Genesis?"

Dave says, "I was already too far off the Feminist Reservation in 1984 to allow me to just have my say for another 20 years and 200-some-odd issues." Except ... that's exactly what he did. He's whining that he was prevented from doing the very thing he actually did.
