Notes for Cerebus #96

MARGARET LISS:

A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

No, no. We’re not looking at Dave Sim’s 6th notebook again this week. How about his 11th notebook? It covers Cerebus #96 through 102 with 114 pages scanned. So I had picked out page 45 as it looked really cool. . .but nope, that was actually what we looked at last for this notebook. Way back in Big Pope Hat in November of 2021. So instead, how about page 18?

Notebook #11, page 18

There is a layout of a double page spread of the black tower with Lower Iest and the Feld River shown in the background. This particular image doesn’t show up in Church & State II at all.

There are also some notes for Cerebus #96:

- Gold sphere has flaw

- And there is this

- Demand a trial

- Astoria intends to co-operate

- Cerebus dreamt something just before the guar Powers knocked.

Then a bit of a dialogue to the side of that:

A golt spehere? No no. I vash  thinking more of maybe shome loxsh. Vit some nice cream cheese.

No?
