$21,058 @ 2:38 pm

Sales figures are in for CEREBUS IN HELL? #1:  down to 5,500 from 8,000 on #0.  Matt, as usual, asked what I wanted the PO to be for and I figured, well, okay, Diamond took an extra 1,000 on #0 (and thank you again) and sold roughly 700 of the extra thousand.  So, I thought, let's "top it up" to 6,300 on the assumption that they can sell the same percentage of the 700 that they did of the 1,000 (don't want them to come up short, but I don't want them to be eating books either).

It makes my head hurt trying to figure out what's going on.  My best theory right now is that x number of stores UNDER-ordered the book and that added up to 700 extras being sold and y number of stores OVER-ordered on the book and cut their orders on #1 to what they sold of #0.  And z number of stores ordered just as many as they needed and sold them and then ordered the same again.  And there were more "y" stores than "x" and "z" stores at about a 3:1 ratio.

Does that sound right to anyone?

Well, I don't know about your x, y, and z math, but MY math says that if you were able to pay your monthly salary with 4% of the Diamond CIH? #0 cheque, then that means that that Diamond cheque was for at least $30,000.

Nice haul!

Put me down for having contributed $8 of the $30,000, even though I had asked my LCS to pull four copies for me.

Hi Jeff - No, I had money left in my personal account from last month so I just topped it up with my 4% royalty. I do that reasonably often. If I don't need the money, I don't pay myself in the interests of keeping everything rolling along. Worked out to about $386 US which became a little over $500 Canadian (this was when the C$ was bottoming out).

The Diamond cheque was for around $9K US.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get all of the copies that you wanted from your LCS. We HOPE that doesn't happen a lot but, obviously, it does happen.

Well, they don't pay much attention to me. I'm just that "old guy who comes in every few months or so, who says he knows Dave Sim and Gerhard". I do think that they appreciate the updates on what you're up to, though.

See, there's your problem. ALL the old guys "know Dave Sim and Gerhard".

Yeah, grandpa. Whatever. Short him on his order and maybe he'll go somewhere else.

I'm just kidding about that. I think. :)

Well, actually, Tim, the manager at The College of Comic Book Knowledge, is an old guy, too. I think they ignore me mainly 'cause I never buy all that much and they don't have a lot of stuff I'm looking for. Like the Gene Day run on Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu. But, at least they do order your stuff for me.

Plus, Big Brain Comics went out of business earlier this year.

Jeff and Dave -

I too am one of the 'old guys' and pretty much go to the LCS a few times a year just to pick up whatever Sergio Aragones books have been released.

His Funnies series, by the way, was absolutely wonderful, especially the autobiographical sections.

Steve - I agree 100%. Sergio never does anything but top-grade cartooning.

I don't do comic shops these days, but would love to find 'em online.

Any ideas?

@Jeff - you may already know, but that spectacular Gene Day run of MOKF is gonna be available as a sweet HC omnibus soon (Volume 4 of the entire MOKF run I believe).

Of course these were all announced right after I just finished obtaining "floppies" of all the originals.

Gee! T'anks, Al!

@Jeff - actually it looks like you're gonna need both volumes 3 and 4:

Heck if I know. Far as I can tell, nobody in Atlanta carried #0 at all, including Oxford Books which usually carries everything. I put in a special order with my local store today for #0 and and #1.
