The Ol' AMOC Mailbag contains a multitude of wonders...

Hi, Everybody!

The Bizarre Autopsy of The Strange Death of Alex Raymond: What went wrong, AND HOW!

Heritage has the cover for issue #30, and some glamourpuss art too, NEW ADDITION: Strange Death of Alex Raymond preliminary sketches by Dave.

And the buttons go bye-bye: The Red State Button and The Blue State Button

Cerebus in Hell: Attractive Cousins (available at the end of July), Batvark PENIS! or the "Censored for Grandma" variant: Batvark XXXXX! are currently available for order from your local Comic Book Store. Signed copies of Vark Wars: Walt's Empire Strikes Back (plenty of copies left.)

The ol' AMOC Mailbag is chock full of goodness:

First up, The Waverly Press (who are running a new Non-Cerebus Kickstarter) sent an update on the Remastered Cerebus #1 Kickstarter:
Hello backers!

We spent the past few weeks finishing the samples and proofs ensuring the everything is of the highest quality. Yesterday the books went to print and we expect things to move smoothly. Due to the pandemic there are still slowdowns on the production side but our printer does not anticipate any major delays. Should any unforeseen delays arrive we will let you know.

We got an early jump on the "Extras" and happy to report that everything else aside from the books have been produced and delivered. Photos below...

As you'll notice the Cloisonné pins were produced using black nickel instead of traditional gold metal, and though the nickel was more costly to produce we feel it captures Dave's line art beautifully. The 3" vinyl stickers couldn't be nicer and the postcards look killer, utilizing the same art that will appear on the poster.

Next are the 7 trading cards. The design is a modified version of Dave original 1982 design for a set of trading cards that were never produced. We're happy to finally get them made and these 7 are the first of (hopefully) a larger collection of Cerebus cards to come.

Lastly is the proof edition of the 24 page version of the remastered Cerebus No. 1. Only 50 individually numbered copies of this edition were produced and one of you may get this very copy, lucky number 23. Also, this is the only remastered edition of the book that comes with the $1 cover price. The final production copies will come with a $10 cover price. This is Cerebus No. 1, published as Dave intended way back in 1977, and it's fantastic!

We have some other things to show like posters and prototypes which will be revealed between now and delivery of the finished books at the end of July (fingers crossed). Our plan is to have everyone's orders dispatched in August, just in time for our next BIG Cerebus announcement, so stay tuned!
So, if you're a backer, you know this. And if you're not a backer, look at all the neat stuff you missed out on.

And then, our ol' pal Steve Swenson sent in:
Hey Matt -

Since I don't 'do' Facebook and can't post this there, here's what I'm thinking is a unique Petuniacon poster. Figured you could get a day's AMOC posting out of it at least!

I did a Google search on Petuniacon, no images of this came up.

It's 3 foot by 4 foot, thin non-glossy paper, art by Valentino.

best -
Steve

And Dave sent me:
Hey Matt,

Dave wanted you to have these photos of the letter and item that John Slevin just came in the mail for Dave today. You can post these to A Moment of Cerebus for Dave.

Thanks,
DS

Say, that reminds your ol' Interim Editor, that years ago I bought a toy truck with Cerebos salt on it. (It was advertised as Cerebus Salt.)

And yesterday Oliver ran this:
Well, it's a well known secret that I'm Ron Essler (If Facebook asks, my name is Ron, also, I'm a girl.) and the box contained five copies of the 12th printing of High Society:
Stay tuned to see what I do with them...

Strangehaven shipped 25 years ago this week. It appeared as a 8 page preview in Cerebus issue 198 and Dave Sim wrote the intro to the TPB. (And the creator "photorealist" Gary Spencer Millidge was kind enough to give a super nice blurb to my own indie comic "Captain Zap":))

(And what Gary was so kind to write about my comic: "I found Captain Zap to contain great use of sequential art techniques, with the deceptively simple art and story concealing a number of serious themes. A breeze to read and very funny in places. "A-1" is a great little character and ripe for merchandising possibilities. I also really liked the unhurried pace of the strip.")

The Bizarre Autopsy of The Strange Death of Alex Raymond: What went wrong, AND HOW! (The July 2020 Please Hold For Dave Sim)

Hi, Everybody!

So Dave called Thursday, we talked for just under two hours, so I hope you've got some time on your hands...

We begin with my daughter Janis, marking her third appearance talking to Dave. This month I told her she had to read Cerebus #1 and draw her own strip. (This actually took place after part ten or eleven, but I moved it to the front so we could get Please Hold For Dave Sim Jr. out of the way first:
This one's going up to Dave too.

Then we get into it:
Click for bigger if you're REALLY into purple...

Part one: Dave reads a letter from a fan who's name I don't know how to spell. And answers the questions posed by Michael R.:
Hi Dave!
1- When did you see SDOAR coming to an end?
2- Was it sudden of kinda creepin' along?
3- What was the straw that broke your back?

Also, I know you made up your mind when you said, " I'm afraid I've had enough", but you also said, " I hope to work in SDOAR VOLS 3, 4 and 5 as a hobby, but that really unlikely". Well, if you "hope" then I believe there's still a chance. I still believe in Dave Sim and I believe that Eddie will get VOL 1 to the 123.

Part two: Dave's answers.

I can't really understand my notes, so you're kinda on your own now... Part three:

Part four:

Part ten: Okay, I know that this one involves Dave letting the cat out of the bag about a (formerly) TOP SECRET project with the Waverly Press: a new version of Spawn #10 with all new Dave art.

And since I almost forgot:
Heritage has the cover for issue #30, and some glamourpuss art too, NEW ADDITION: Strange Death of Alex Raymond preliminary sketches by Dave.

And the buttons go bye-bye: The Red State Button and The Blue State Button

Cerebus in Hell: Attractive Cousins (available at the end of July), Batvark PENIS! or the "Censored for Grandma" variant: Batvark XXXXX! are currently available for order from your local Comic Book Store. Signed copies of Vark Wars: Walt's Empire Strikes Back  (ya gotta click for details.)

Next Time: Oliver and all the things from all the internets...

Matt Dow's Awesome AMOC Shirt (Dave's Weekly Update #346)

Hi, Everybody!

Heeeeeere's

Okay, the Certificate of Authenticity WASN'T wrapped up in the shirt, which means it's still in the box of miscellaneous stuff I still need to ship to Dave. But this is one of those Fancy Queensboro shirts I was "selling" a while back. They're $22 bucks USD, but I frequently get emails with deals, so if you're interested, drop a message to momentofcerebus@gmail.com, and I'll put you on the list for the next time there is a sale. When the sale comes, I'll have like twenty-four hours or less to order, and there'll be a minimum order of six shirts and a max of ten. So it might not happen "quickly". Also, I don't try to make money on this, I collect the price of the shirt plus shipping. When the sale happens, I'll shoot you an email letting you know what's happening.

Heritage has the cover for issue #30, and some glamourpuss art too, NEW ADDITION: Strange Death of Alex Raymond preliminary sketches by Dave.

And the buttons go bye-bye: The Red State Button and The Blue State Button

And as tomorrow is the first Saturday of the month, I did indeed Please Hold-ed for Dave Sim, yesterday:

And the nine year old wanted to talk to Dave again. The new rule is she has to read Cerebus and make her own title sketch:

Dave and I talked for just a few seconds under two hours.

Next Time: As many videos as I can get uploaded. Let's hope my new internet works as fast as they claim...

CiH? Daily Strip #68

From the Head Office in Kitchener, Ontario, it's TODAY'S Cerebus in Hell?!!!:

Issue #48 Thumbnails

MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

Dave Sim’s fifth Cerebus notebook, aka Albatross #5, covered Cerebus #45 through 49 and had 79 out of 80 pages scanned.  We last saw it in May of 2019 in Suenteus Po Versus Astoria. This time I thought I’d show a page with Jaka. Kind of.

Page 73 of the notebook has several thumbnails – of page 13 and 14 of Cerebus #48, which yes, Jaka is in:

Notebook 5, page 73
Yup, that is Jaka. The page thumbnails don’t quite match up to the finished pages, but they are pretty close:

Cerebus #48, pages 13 & 14 (aka High Society pages 465 & 466)
The dialogue at the top of the page is on the last page of the issue. And there is also a sketch of the cover.
