Oliver Simonsen:

Jack VanDyke is starring in a comic book and the kickstarter tripled its goal in less than 24 hours! http://kck.st/3j2Q3zx
Her co-stars are Dave Sim, Carson Grubaugh and Sean Robinson no less! Here spotlighted by the world's biggest comics news site Bleeding Cool
https://bleedingcool.com/comics/dave-sim-parodies-rob-liefelds-avengylene-for-you-dont-know-jack/

Jack is an amazing artist in her own right - follow her here https://www.instagram.com/isleofjack/

Btw did you know Dave did photorealism animation for a promo/pitch idea. Partial animation anyway - he drew 6 images before it proved too much for his wrist. Need 24 drawings, or at least 12, for one second of animation. All the same here's the available 6 drawings in a cycle. I threw in the "J" roughly as Dave suggested in his notes.
(Referenced from a George Michael music video)

We even played around with motion graphics

Oh wait, so I sent the Jack team a draft of this column to get an ok and see now that they put it up on their kickstarter update - very cool
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1349357665/you-dont-know-jack/posts/2896686
I especially like the line: "Cerebus readers will recognize the central recursive event not as a Groundhog Day lift, but a Cerebus theme and recurring plot" as that applies to the Cerebus film as well. Will have to remember that one.

Another promotional idea of Dave's was to have a blog series featuring my wife's review done at Dave's behest in 2018. It was a detailed panel by panel, page by page, play by play...it was glowing and very witty to boot. She's not a comic book person and I told her to be honest and let the chips fall where they may - to sum it up she said: "I laughed out loud!!"

All that aside the Jack Kickstarter campaign is now one with the most backers of all "living the line" Kickstarter campaigns so big congrats to the "Jack" team!

Meanwhile...what is up with the aardvark? Let's see...

Charles: When I first read Cerebus issue #120 in 1989, the only thing I really knew of Wilde's was "The Importance of Being Earnest," but I was soon inspired to delve into his biography, and that led me, gradually, into the rest of his work. Needless to say, this little comic book was enormously influential.

Review of Cerebus issue 7: "I would now define it as "madcap sword & sorcery parody." "a slapstick pursuit reminiscent of any old television program that would make you think of a slapstick pursuit. Maybe Scooby Doo or one of the Abbott and Costello movies.", "grades the art of Cerebus as an A and the writing as an A+"

Baltazar Cardenas shares a new "The Comics Journal" review of "Cosmix" an early pre-Cerebus piece by Dave Sim. From the review: "...its photorealism is pure, uncut Al Williamson" and "...offers a glimpse into the creative mind of a young genius in the making"

Have to say while most of us at that age were hanging out with our friends wasting time lol it's amazing to see how much young Dave applied himself - in large part thanks to his mentor, Gene Day, I'd imagine. Dave's pre-Cerebus published output is probably more than most selfpublishers entire output.

If the picture of George Carlin is from the 1980s, then he is definitely not a "young George Carlin," let alone a "*very* young George Carlin." Young George Carlin ended no later than, say, 1971 or 72...
