Can we get a Cerebus in Hell? rendition of "Who's on first"? :)

I suppose Strip 7 means that *I'm* "an" eighteen, eh Dave?

Gary - Definitely. I just did one a couple of weeks ago with the punchline "Fair warning. Cerebus' next line is 'Who's on first?'" So, good news: YES; bad news: not until March, I don't think.

Jeff - The ethnic minorities, I suspect, are being charitable but, yes, as far as I can determine, we're ALL over "ten" on the "too white to live" scale.

Given the pattern of ironies, I'm inferring that strip # 6 means Dave truly does recognize the superiority of the David Lee Roth years of Van Halen. Quite rightly so.

Dave, as someone who did a remarkable job with Mick and Keef in Cerebus, did you ever catch the "Bloom County" strips where Mick appeared? Good stuff. I also vaguely recall David Lee Roth appearing there as well.

Jim Sheridan - Boy, that's going back a ways. The Van Halen vs. Van Hagar thing, I think, had more to do with the same dynamic that the Rolling Stones had: deep resentment of the lead singer because of the disproportionate attention the lead singer attracts. While you're climbing the ladder, you're a band and then when you get to the top of the ladder you find out that you're part of the supporting cast for the Lead Singer. The problem, I think, originating with what the Pop Music Climb does to your ego: inflates it to an unnatural degree, but gradually. That level of ego just can't take it when the irrefutable fact of being Way Down In Second Place behind who you thought of and still think of as a peer (just less talented because singing and dancing is less technically difficult than playing any instrument well) becomes in inescapable core reality in your life. For decades.

As Charlie Watts evidently snarled at Mick once: "I'm not your @#$%ing drummer, YOU'RE MY @#$%ING SINGER!"

My interest in Van Halen really amounted to "Wow, Eddie Van Halen is very lucky to be married to Valerie Bertinelli".

And I used to have a David Lee Roth solo video collection that was hilarious. I still quote "The BAD news is, we've lost our way. The GOOD news is, we're WAY ahead of schedule." And I love the DAVE TV intro to "I'm Just a Gigolo".

Beth, who I based the nude model character in one of the books on, always used to say when she saw me "It's DAAAAVE. TV!"

"Y'can't take your eyes OFF of it and you can only see it HERE! On DAAAAAVE TV!"

Here is one of the Bloom County versions of Mick Jagger:
